GENERAL INFORMATION

ORDERING

As all cakes are baked to order, I generally require at least 2 weeks’ notice for a celebration cake.

I would appreciate at least 3 months’ notice for a wedding cake, particularly for fruit cakes, to allow the cakes to mature.  However, if you do need a cake at very short notice, please ask – I may be able to help.  If your wedding is between April and September, it would be advisable to book your date well in advance, as this is the busiest season for weddings.  Once your design has been agreed, you will need to sign a confirmation of order.  Any changes to the original design may incur an extra charge and must be agreed in writing.

PAYMENT TERMS

A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required on booking all cakes.  This secures your wedding date (or other special event date) in my diary.  I will only book one wedding cake or corporate cake on a particular day so that I can personally deliver and set up your cake at your venue.  The balance is payable 28 days before the date of your wedding or corporate event.  For all other cakes, the balance is payable on or by the delivery/collection date if in cash or by bank transfer (or 5 days before if paying by cheque).  Any cheques should be made  payable to K Hinton.  A receipt will be issued for all payments made.

Please note that cheques will need to clear before any work is started on your cake.

CANCELLATION

Cancellations will result in the loss of your deposit.

Wedding cakes cancelled within one month of your wedding date may be liable to full payment, as work will have been started on your cake and/or items purchased in connection with it.

Corporate cakes cancelled within one month of the event date may be liable to full payment, as work will have been started on your cake and/or items purchased in connection with it.

STAND HIRE

Many venues will provide a silver or gold base stand for your wedding cake, also a cake knife for the cake-cutting ceremony.  Ask to see these items to ensure that they are in good condition – they will be in your wedding photos!  If the venue does not supply these, I can hire them for you.

Many other types and styles of cake stand are available, from 2, 3, 4 or 5 tier metal stands in different shapes and heights to pedestal stands in glass or porcelain – these will be discussed when you decide on your cake design.

For all hired items, there will be a hire charge plus a  security deposit, also a round-trip mileage charge if I have to collect the item/s from the venue the day after your wedding.  The deposit is fully refundable when the items are collected/returned on time and undamaged.  Any damage or the late return of items will incur the loss of your deposit.

DELIVERY/COLLECTION AND SET-UP SERVICE

Celebration cakes will be supplied in white cake boxes and can be collected from me by prior arrangement.  Alternatively, I will happily deliver them to you or the venue of your choice.  .

Delivery of all cakes is free of charge within Barry.  Outside of this area, return delivery mileage will be charged at 65p per mile.

Set-up of wedding cakes, civil ceremony cakes or corporate cakes at the venue is provided free of charge.  This service is highly recommended, as once your cake has left my premises, West End Cakes cannot be held liable for any damage incurred.

STORAGE

Sponge, chocolate and carrot cakes are baked fresh to order.  They should be kept in the cardboard cake box supplied, in a cool place (but not the fridge) and are best eaten within 2 days of delivery, as they do not contain added preservatives.

Cupcakes should be eaten within a day of delivery.  Store them in their cardboard cake box.

Rich fruit cakes will be fully matured and at their best when delivered.  Once cut, wrap any leftover cake in greaseproof paper then in foil and store in a cool place for up to 3 months.
